How to Use SAGE: From Patient Creation to Prescription

March 25, 2026 · 2 min read · Guide

SAGE walks you through a clean, tab-based workflow — from selecting a patient all the way to generating a PDF prescription. Each tab handles one step, so nothing gets missed. Here's the full walkthrough.

1

Select Patient

The first tab is your starting point. Search for an existing patient by name or phone number, or tap Add New Patient to register someone for the first time.

For returning patients, SAGE pulls up their complete history instantly — no more flipping through paper files. The current date is displayed so every visit is timestamped automatically.

2

Symptoms & Diagnosis

Record the patient's presenting complaints with severity and duration for each symptom. Common symptoms like Fever, Headache, Cough, Cold, Sore throat, Body pain, and more are available as quick-pick tags — just tap to add.

Below that, search for a diagnosis by name or ICD code. Quick tags cover frequent diagnoses like Viral fever, Upper respiratory tract infection, Acute bronchitis, Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and UTI. Mark each as Primary or Secondary.

3

Vitals

Enter the patient's vitals in a clean, structured form:

  • Blood Pressure (mmHg) — e.g., 120/80
  • Heart Rate (bpm) and Resp. Rate (breaths/min)
  • Temperature (°F) and SpO2 (%)
  • Weight (kg), Height (cm), and BMI — calculated automatically

All vitals are saved to the patient's record, so you can track trends across visits.

4

Investigations

Order lab tests and investigations right from SAGE. Search for any test or use the quick tags for common orders:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC), Blood Glucose (Fasting & PP)
  • HbA1c, Lipid Profile, Thyroid Profile (TSH)
  • Liver Function Test (LFT), Kidney Function Test (KFT)
  • Urine Routine, ECG, and more

Mark tests as Normal or Urgent with a single click, and add custom investigations if needed.

5

History

SAGE organises patient history across four sub-tabs:

  • Medical — H/o Medical Problems (HTN, Diabetes, COPD, etc.), H/o Medications (Metformin, Amlodipine, Atorvastatin, etc.), and H/o Procedures (Appendectomy, C-Section, Angioplasty, etc.)
  • Allergies — drug allergies, food allergies, and environmental triggers
  • High Risk — risk factors relevant to treatment decisions
  • Family — family history of hereditary conditions

Each section has quick tags for common entries, plus a custom field to add anything specific.

6

Rx (Medicines)

Search from a comprehensive Indian medicine database with quick tags for commonly prescribed drugs — Paracetamol (500mg), Amoxicillin (500mg), Ibuprofen (400mg), Cetirizine (10mg), Azithromycin (500mg), Dolo 650, Crocin Advance, and more including tablets, capsules, and syrups.

For each medicine, configure:

  • Form — TAB, CAP, SYR, etc.
  • Dose and Frequency — Once daily, Twice daily, and more
  • Duration — e.g., 5 days, 7 days, 15 days

Medicines are numbered and listed clearly. The tab badge shows a count (e.g., "5") so you always know how many medicines have been added. Tap + Add to keep adding, or × to remove one.

7

Advice

SAGE splits advice into two sections, each with pre-written options you can add with a single tap:

  • Dietary Instructions — "Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily", "Avoid oily, spicy, and fried foods", "Take small, frequent meals", "Low salt diet", "Low sugar diet", "High fiber diet", "Diabetic diet", and more
  • General Advice — "Take adequate rest", "Avoid strenuous physical activity for 1 week", "Continue medications as prescribed", "Return immediately if symptoms worsen", "Monitor blood pressure daily", "Maintain personal hygiene", and more

You can also type custom advice in the free-text area for anything specific to the patient.

8

Follow-up & Billing

This tab handles two things. First, set the next visit date using quick presets — 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, or 3 months — or pick a custom date. Add follow-up notes with instructions for the next visit.

Below that, SAGE includes a built-in Billing section:

  • Set your consultation fee (in ₹) and payment method (UPI, Cash, Card, etc.)
  • Add line items with descriptions and amounts
  • Apply discount (%) and tax (%)
  • SAGE auto-calculates subtotal, discount, tax, and total
9

Generate Prescription

Once all tabs are filled, SAGE generates a professional prescription with a unique ID (e.g., RX-20260325-7698) and a Finalized status badge. The prescription includes:

  • Doctor's name, registration number, and clinic name
  • Patient name, sex, date, and phone number
  • Complaints listed clearly
  • Rx section with numbered medicines, dosage, frequency, duration, and timing (e.g., "BD × 5 days — After food")
  • Follow-up date
  • Doctor's signature area

Switch between Preview and Details tabs to review. When ready, hit Print to get a hard copy or share the PDF digitally. Every prescription is stored in the cloud and accessible anytime.

Pro tip: Use SAGE's template system to save your most common prescriptions. For repeat visits or similar cases, load a template and adjust — you'll go from patient to prescription in under 30 seconds.

SAGE supports multiple Indian languages, so your patients can read their prescription in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and more. Everything is backed up daily to the cloud with bank-level encryption.
